World Tourism Day: Tourism and the Digital Transformation | Budapest, September 27

World Tourism Day will be hosted in Budapest on the 27th of September. The capital of Hungary is a classical European city and aims to commit to the digital future which makes this hosting city a perfect stage for the celebration of tourism.

The Digital Skills, one of the skills sets whereNext Tourism Generation (NTG)aims to focus on and minimizing the gap between education and industry, is of huge importance during this day. UNWTO states that “Harnessing innovation and digital advances provides tourism with opportunities to improve inclusiveness, local community empowerment and efficient resource management, amongst other objectives within the wider sustainable development agenda. The digital transformation is about providing benefits to all, and we are making sure that tourism contributes to this global commitment” (UNWTO, 2018).

Silvia Barbone, NTG partner coordinator fromFederturismo Confindustriawill also participate at the even and will have several meetings with stakeholders like Mr. Adam ERDOS, Industry Manager EMEA at Google, dr. Istvan UJHELYI, Vice-Chair of Committee on Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament and Special Ambassador of the UNWTO, Mr. Akos BONA, Trustee of the Digital Future Foundation, Hungary’s Digital Champion of the EU Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition and with the leaders of the Hungarian Tourism Association Foundation.

New tools have provided both the supply AND demand side with new opportunities, which have to be embraced and used in order to make processes more convenient, and outstanding. During theWorld Tourism Day2018, there will be the opportunity to raise awareness on how to make use of digital technologies in the tourism industry and its developments. World Tourism Day is a unique opportunity to raise awareness on the potential contribution of digital technologies to sustainable tourism development, while providing a platform for investment, partnerships and collaboration towards a more responsible and inclusive tourism sector.
