Kick-off Next Tourism Generation in Brussels

The European Commission is focusing on an European partnership for implementing a long-term strategy for skills development in tourism and has initiated a 4 year Erasmus+ project. On March 5, projectleader of the Next Tourism Generation, Silvia Barbone (Federturismo Confindustria) and the 14 partners have launched the Next Tourism Generation Alliance in Brussels at the European Travel Commission headquarters. NTG is a uniquetourism skills projectthat, from 2018 onwards will allow education and the tourism industry to respond to the skills needs of the tourism sector and offer concrete, innovative skills solutions.

The Next Tourism Generation (NTG) is the first Sector Skills Alliance in tourism for implementing a new strategic approach – Blueprint – to sectoral cooperation on skills, as well as the first European partnership and alliance for improving a collaborative and productive relationship between education and industry. What makes the project groundbreaking is the multidisciplinary approach as it will focus on the skills gaps in digital, green and social skills and in specialist subsectors, i.e. Destination Management, Blue Economy Tourism, Heritage Interpretation, Gastronomy and the Collaborative Economy.

The Blue Print will support destinations, enterprises and higher education institutions to deliver regional strategies for employment and sustainable development. One of the outcomes will be aTourism Skills Hub. This will support Business and Education partnerships to address skills gaps using innovative methods of learning and improving the image of tourism professions.
