Elfa Kere

Ms ĶERE joined the European Commission in 2004 and has worked as a Policy Officer in the Commission’s Directorates-General for Home Affairs (HOME), Mobility and Transport (MOVE) and currently serves in DG GROW – Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs – in the tourism team, covering such areas as skills, labour shortages, transport (maritime, aviation, rail, road) and inter-institutional affairs. She holds an MSc in European Politics and Policy from the London School of Economics and a BA in International Affairs from the School of International Service, The American University (Washington, DC).

Arran Wiltshire

Arran is responsible for overseeing all of ETOA’s event activities, including the delivery of its portfolio of annual business networking workshops. He also drives the Celestina white-label event services programme and coordinates ETOA’s role in European-level project work.

Michael Quinn

Michael is a Manager in the Tourism Careers division which forms part of the Sector Development area of Fáilte Ireland. The division’s focus includes: assisting with driving excellence in the workplace; building the future pipeline of talent; supporting the industry to recruit and retain the most in demand roles and supporting businesses to upskill and drive career progression.

Niamh Jordan

A graduate of DIT Cathal Brugha St in Hotel Management, Niamh spent the first 20 years of her career in operations reaching the role of GM at Crown Moran Hotel in London and then Silver Springs Hotel in Cork.

In 2008 Niamh made the switch to Human Resources and worked at the Gresham Hotel, for Radisson Blu Hotels and is now HR Director at Conrad Dublin, Luxury Division of Hilton for the last 5 years

Darina Brennan

Darina works with 52 Head Chefs in Ireland, UK and Germany. A Council member of Chef Network Advisory Council.

With her 30 years of experience, she has opened four 200+ seater restaurants for the Luigi Malone group. Darina opened and established the very successful Fire Restaurant and venue at the Mansion House Dublin. She brings a passion and drive for supporting small Irish Artisan producers and this in turn allows these suppliers to play a part within Ireland’s largest Hotel group.

Chloe Murphy – BA Tourism Management (TU Dublin)

Chloe is in her third and final year at TU Dublin, studying BA in Tourism Management. As part of the course, she completed a six-month work placement in the National Wax Museum Plus on Westmoreland Street in Dublin, between January and July 2022.

Robyn Ronayne – B.Sc. Culinary Entrepreneurship (TU Dublin)

Robyn is a final-year student completing her B.Sc.. in Culinary Entrepreneurship with TU Dublin. In her academic endeavours, Robyn has garnered knowledge in the fields of hospitality management, human resource management, and culinary arts. Robyn has refined her professional practice in the hospitality industry both front and back of the house since 2016. Robyn is currently employed with the Coombe Women and Children’s University Hospital as a student catering supervisor.

Summary

In a joint event organised by the Pantour Consortium, an Erasmus + funded project which aims to create impactful skilling initiatives in Europe, and the Pact for Skills for Tourism (PfST), which promotes joint action through the establishment and implementation of large-scale skills partnerships at national, regional and local levels, we will also celebrate the 1stanniversary of the PfST, bringing together panellists to discuss this urgent issue in the industry.

This panel seeks to discuss with a solution-focused approach the emergence of initiatives to attract and retain staff in tourism and hospitality across Europe. In a joint event organised by the Pantour Consortium, an Erasmus + funded project which aims to create impactful skilling initiatives in Europe, and the Pact for Skills for Tourism (PfST), which promotes joint action through the establishment and implementation of large-scale skills partnerships at national, regional and local levels, we will also celebrate the 1stanniversary of the PfST, bringing together panellists to discuss this urgent issue in the industry.

A current priority for Tourism and hospitality employers across Europe is to find solutions to the issue of staff shortages in the sector. This shortage is a result of large numbers of workers, leaving the sector during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the current recovery phase, attracting and retaining staff is a key concern. This event will present some solutions by exploring case studies on innovative recruitment and retention approaches, policy solutions, and building new career pathways.

Some of the questions that arise aree, how we could potentialise the industry by promoting solutions to address staff shortages? And what initiatives are happening on the ground? This panel seeks to provide an overview of initiatives and case studies to address the shortage of staff in the sector.
